WARDROBE & STYLING

Your headshot integrates your professional image and your personal style. Below are tips for choosing outfits for your photoshoot.

Style: Select clothing you would wear to an important meeting at work. After all, these portraits are going to be part of your brand and should reflect your elevated business style. Keep in mind the norms of the business you represent - is your business traditional, casual, artistic - style accordingly?

Variety: Include 2-3 different outfits for a variety of looks. The traditional headshots might include a polished and classic wardrobe, while the personality highlights might include a stylized fashion-forward look.

Fit: Well-fitting, tailored clothing typically photographs beautifully. We all know that clothing that's too tight can be unflattering, while oversized, flowy outfits may look great in person but often don't translate well in still photos. A structured jacket can be the perfect complement to a flowy blouse or dress, adding balance and polish to your look.

We’re Solid: Solid colors are flattering and highlight you. Mix textures, layers, and small prints to add interest. Avoid distracting logos, lettering, or graphics.

Best Foot Forward: Remember to coordinate your shoes with your outfit. Even though your headshot won’t show your feet, you might want a full-body shot that highlights your entire look—and those fabulous shoes!

Accessorize: Choose accessories that complement your outfit without drawing too much attention—we want the focus to be on you!

Break the Rules: Prints and texture, pops of color, funky shoes - it’s ok to break the rules, just know your audience.

Test Drive: Try on your outfits to see how they fit and feel, especially as you move. If something doesn’t feel right, you’ll have time to make adjustments before your photoshoot.

Goals: Our goal is to achieve flattering, professional looks that align with both your brand and personality.

GROOMING

To look your best for your photoshoot, it’s important to plan ahead.

Hair Appointments: Schedule your cut and color about a week before the shoot.

Nail Appointments: Book a manicure a day or two before your session.

Facial Hair: Arrive freshly shaved or with neatly trimmed facial hair.

Wardrobe: Organize, press, and hang your outfits and accessories a few days in advance to avoid any last-minute stress.

Makeup: If you’re wearing makeup, go for a natural look that enhances your features. A polished, professional style usually works best for business portraits. A little insider tip—I can enhance makeup in editing, but I can’t remove it.
